Subject: Firefox Spell Checker
Safari is great browser, but there are just some things that Firefox can do that Safari can't-- A lot of CSS and javascript, for example, looks a lo nicer and has more functionality in Firefox. And the extensible design of Firefox is a major plus for me.

However, I continue to lament the lack of integration with the Mac OS that Safari enjoys which is missing in Firefox. The most frustrating of which, to me, is the lack of the spell checker service. A while back, I "solved" this problem in Firefox in a rather unconventional and redundant way-- installing a third-party spell checker-- if anything, again a testament to Firefox's extensible design. I think the extension I was using was SpellBound. it seems as though it hasn't been updated to work with the latest version of Firefox, however.

Does anyone know of another extension that provides the same functionality, or of some way to get the system spell checker to work with Firefox?

The Google Toolbar has a spell-check feature.

The downside is it is a whole toolbar, rather than just a handy little extension.

There's Aspellfox, but that is only for Linux, it appears.

That's all I see now - sorry I couldn't be of any more help!  :hmm:

Thanks for the tip, Scifience! I had heard of the Google toolbar before, of course, but didn't realize it had spell checking abilities. It's also pretty nifty if one uses Google search often, which I do. Spell checking is rather nice, really-- It shows you all "misspellings" underlined at once. Interestingly enough-- It underlined a lower-cased "google" in this post, telling me it should be capitalized.
